The Mosley Review: Jackass Forever
It has been a very long time since I have had this much fun watching grown men absolutely wreck themselves. I was around for the original series on MTV and I remember the many other ridiculous stunt shows it inspired and even the kids in my school started their own version. Nothing really compared to the amount of sheer amount of inventive stunt work, hilarious jokes and some truly grotesque visuals that you want to look away but can't. I may not have been a hardcore fan of the show, but the films have always been a must watch amongst friends and sometimes family. It has been just over 10 years since we've seen this team of buffoons return to what they do best and they haven't skipped a beat. From the epic opening scene to the very last montage of past footage and moments behind the scenes, I had the biggest smile and the loudest grones and screams of joy and laughter. I almost want more, but I don't think any of them can take anymore.
Johnny Knoxville returns as the mastermind of all the shenanigans and he was so giddy. He sort of takes a back seat for the majority of the film but when he gets involved with the stunts, you feel the joy and definitely the pain. Steve-O was fantastic and joyful throughout the film. You see the fun he is having and the insane amount of pain he finds himself in. His biggest stunt in the film was the most painful to watch and scary. Dave England was great and you feel so bad for him in one of the stunts. He's having fun and its hilarious, but the man is traumatized by what happens to him. Wee Man is still the hilarious angel of the crew and I loved all of his stunts. Chris Pontius is known for all the gross out moments and sight gags with his genitalia and he takes it the next level. I couldn't believe the amount of dexterity and brilliance behind his ideas for his member. Danger Ehren really steals the film as he is the most beat up in the film. It is riveting entertainment to watch him get punched, hit with balls and of course the trailer moment with the bear. The bear prank was probably the most terrifying, hilarious and amazing segment of the film. There is a new crew that joins the madness and they're just as daring. Sean "Poopies" McInerney was hilarious and was a real trooper. You could tell this was a dream for him to be apart of the team. Zach Holmes was hilarious and rocked all the physical moments of the stunts. Jasper Dolphin was fantastic and his chemistry with the team was excellent. Rachel Wolfson joins the team and she doesn't really join in all the more extreme stunts, but she doesn't hesitate to get in on the action. All 3 earn their spots on the team and are worthy of the Jackass brand.
The visual gags are some of the most painful to watch and sometimes the grossest. There are moments that I had to squint my eyes to see the madness and then there were moments I almost passed out from laughing so much. There are many franchises that have had returns, but none as perfect as this. This was a fantastic return to a franchise that I didn't know I needed and I'm glad its here. This is a must see for all Jackass fans and do stick through the credits for a touching tribute to a beloved cast member. Let me know what you thought of the film or my review in the comments below.
